Son is in first grade and he blew through this book (he's above average). Only the last few pages stumped him but overall it was a terrific purchase. The concept is really sweet, colors vibrant. The child will really have to use his/her conceptual thinking to solve the answers. That made it fun for my son too. He especially loved the cupcake page.
This was one of my children's very favorite counting books when they were young. Instead of simply counting cupcakes or dogs or starfish, this book requires a child to notice small details of the objects and count different subsets of them. For the toy page for example, the child is asked to count all trucks, firetrucks only, and finally, fire trucks with ladders. The brightly colored illustrations are a pleasure, adding to the appeal of this fun and unusual counting book.
A bright, colorful counting book that displays a different set of familiar items, from fish to stars to cupcakes, on each double page spread. But some of the items in each spread have distinguishing characteristics, which makes this read special. The questions ask children to count all the items, and then count those of a different color or a different size or in a different location. E.g., on a page showing books, how many books are there? How many books are tiny? How many books are tiny and have numbers on the cover?I find the images clear, the questions easy to answer, and the distinguishing characteristics easily discerned by young children.Determining which attributes are shared and which are distinct is the first step in categorizing groups into sets, an important concept in mathematics; reading this book together with a child that is learning to count not only teaches a counting lesson but a valuable lesson in sorting and grouping. It’s a book to share.
Fun counting book but you child must be able to count up to 25. My 5 year old loves it. My 2 year old twins love it but we have to count different things. There are lots of ways to count each page. Not a quick read a bedtime though.
This book is great for reading to one or two, but not a group. The pictures are to be discussed from many points of view. It's great to open discussion and talk about numbers.
My grandson loves this book recommended by his first grade teacher... a fun teaching tool we read it every night.
My son love the book and I thing he learning to much I recommend this book for first grade and second grade
