This is a great little book that encourages kids (approx. ages 7-10) to be creative with writing. Gutman offers practical advice about story telling in a very down-to-earth way that is excellent for young people without talking down to them. He is explains his own process for finding ideas and drafting his books. My daughter loves it and has been inspired to write creatively since receiving this book.
Bought this for my 2nd grader. He thought it was hilarious like all the other wired school books. Also does have some good tips. My son wants to be a writer because of Dan Gutman.
My son (10 yrs) HATES to write but loves Dan Gutman's Weird School Days series. He read this book and enjoyed it just as much as those in the series and got excited about writing for the first time ever.
The books by Dan Gutman are really good the My Weird School Days etc. my granddaughter has them all and looks forward to the new ones coming out she enjoys reading them she is in the 3rd gr and has read them since the first gr.
Every elementary and junior high library should have a copy, or three, of this book on the shelves. A.J and Andrea, those quirky characters from the must read series My Weird School Days, help illustrate some of the complicated rules of grammar that all kids DREAD learning. Dan Gutman also gives helpful insight into how to write a non-fiction report in basic easy to follow steps. Gutman has a way of delivering boring information in a humorous memorable way.
This book is by the same author, Dan Gutman, who writes the series, My Weirder School. Hense the book's name, My Weird Writing Tips. The writing tips aren't weird at all. In fact, they're quite practical. This book is geared toward a younger audience. The book suggests ages 8-12, and I agree with that. With the help of two of his characters, Andrea and Arlo, Gutman gives tips on how to be better writers. This book is good for any kid who has expressed an interest in writing. It gives a realistic view on writing as well. He also includes quotes from famous authors to help illustrate his points. This is an easy to understand guide that kids can use as a valuable tool.
Readers of Dan Gutman's "My Weird School" will love this book. It's informative with lots of great tips on writing style, grammar, etc. without being preachy. I've been using this book for an after-school writing class that I'm teaching, and I just wish I could give every student his or her own copy. Fantastic book!
This is a cute book. My son HATES to write. He enjoyed reading this book. It did help him somewhat, particularly as he learned it can be fun to express yourself via writing as is the tone of the book.
