Victoria rejects Trent's flirting, thinking he's not a serious enough person to date; even when she starts seeing the depth of his character, she worries he won't be able to handle the challenges of her dwarfism.(Though reviews are inherently subjective, I prefer to provide some organization to my opinions through the use of a personal rubric. The following notes may contain spoilers.)Plot and Setting: 4 -- Plot has unique elements and no major holes, but a few shaky bits and/or a slight lack of focus. I like the interesting element of Victoria's dwarfism and the unique challenges that places on the relationship. Some slightly cliche bits (eg, heartbreak after misinformation, etc), but mostly interesting and unique. Setting is clear and believable. Timeline may be a bit hard to follow. I was okay with the timeline until the '4 months later' at the epilogue, which skips past January to at least March, apparently forgetting the 2 months of recovery after Tori's surgery.Characters: 5 -- Relatable, realistic, interesting, dynamic characters. Victoria defines herself by her dwarfism, even while putting on a good public show of not letting that hold her back from anything. She doesn't want pity, to the point of enduring pain rather than using crutches in front of anyone. Trent does what he can to help, but is sensitive enough to avoid making her feel less than a person. I also like how Trent's faith and simple lifestyle are in direct odds to his upbringing. Even minor characters have depth, as do the relationships between characters. Interesting interactions with interesting characters in their families and at BlackThorpe.
