A precious book. It doesn't have the scripture notes in the end like the hardback books do. I think a couple readers complained that they didn't like that the book seemed to condone naughtiness ("God loves you even when you are angry" I think one page said or "even when you are naughty" something like that). This is a toddler book, not a sermon, meant to convey how much God loves us. How would we ever have been given the gift of Jesus if God turned his love off when we sinned? He loves us in spite of our sin. God does love us when we are angry - he might night love the anger itself. Gave this to a mom as part of a shower gift. She was so happy to have something to help start conversations about God with her children. I guess it is easier in some homes than others to bring God into the conversation.
This was our second God Loves You book - this first one, a gift for my son's baptism, eventually came apart after reading it so much. We have read this book countless times and the message always rings true.
Fifteen years ago, my son was born with Down syndrome. He received this book for his third birthday, and it quickly became a favorite of his and of mine. It has a great message for children who feel "different"...whatever the reason: "God loves you just as you are." I often pull this book out when I'm around kids who seem to need encouragement, and they always ask to hear it again. Regarding the other reviewers' comments, I guess you have to determine if a particular child is in need of "law" to help him realize his sinfulness, or "gospel" to lift him up. We all need both at different times and in different situations.
This book has a wonderful message. I read it to my 10 month old daughter often. I want her to know of God's love from a very early age. I love the "Little Blessings" books. The Christian message is easy to understand and I appreciate the ethnic diversity of the illustrations. My daughter has five of the Little Blessings books and I would love to collect them all.P.S.: Good message for adults too.
Being a grandmother and volunteering in a church with an active preschool I was drawn to this book and the additional books in the series..the drawings are charming and sweet. The wording easily understood and loved by all the children in preschool and every young grandchild I give one to. I have purchased five of this particular book and several of the rest of the series. Highly recommend. We adopted Korean girls who are now adults and they love the ethnic variety of the children pictured. Excellent..Cant recommend this book and the series enough. Buy and enjoy and have your children, grandchildren, great grandchildren be enchanted....
My favorite gift to give to a newborn child along with a card. It's an adorable book because it's a short story written in rhyme. Great first book for a child, it's little so easy for small hands to hold book and be read to. Child can easily "mimick" reading story because it's a rhyme. Not preachy or over the top. A simple message that states "No matter who you are, God loves you." I always inscribe the first page with the baby's birth date and a little message to him or her that says "God loves you just as you are!" Shouldn't everyone know that?
This little book if full of delightful illustrations and the clear and beautiful message that God loves each one, in our uniqueness. Bought it for my toddler, but wish I could give it to big people, too. Very encouraging and sweet.
This is a great book. The theology is great. The message is very understandable. It also teaches a very important thing that children need to hear and that is that they were created uniquely out of God's love for them. Rev Kathleen Long Bostrom has wrote a very good book.
