Goes through the alphabet letter by letter. Besides what you see on the Look Inside insert it is much more than writing letters. Lots of activities for each letter like matching and finding things that begin with the letter's sound. Brightly colored pages. I have been very pleased with all the HOP products. Comes with perforated alphabet cards that your kids can play with and a nice chart of pictures and letters. High quality book.
Bought this for my 3, soon to be 4 year old. She LOVES it. There is "I Did It" stickers in the back that we give out when she completes a certain letter and then a fold out map of sorts that you can put the stickers on and shows their progress and my daughter is sort of obsessed with keeping track of it all. Great tool to help pre-k aged children with letter recognition, she has known her letters for a very long while now but still enjoys the activities that were in this workbook.
I use this workbook to reinforce teaching my son to write his letters and numbers. Its also a great workbook for developing fine motor skills as it provides a number of pages for coloring. I would advise using this book after your little ones have learned their letters and numbers so it has more meaning to them.
My four year old daughter and I had finished the Hooked on Phonics PreK Level 1 and 2 program, so I thought this workbook would be a good follow up to finish out the school year. I purchased this workbook along with some others and she enjoys seeing the characters she is already familiar with from their PreK program. It is a pretty thorough workbook. I would definitely recommend using this in addition to the PreK program with the DVD's and reading books. The whole package is a very good program for your preschooler. I homeschool, so this program was perfect for us. I had used Hooked on Phonics before for my older daughter when she was in Kindergarten and needed some extra reading help. She took off in her reading skills after working with the program and is now 16 and a VERY avid reader and wants to also be a writer. Very good program!!
I love this book, we have included it into our homeschooling preschool lesson plan every Monday, very useful, nice pictures, every letter of the alphabet capital and lower case with and activity page to go with every letter (then your child can put a sticker on when fished, witch my 3 year old loves) AND you get a poster with it to put a sicker on with every letter that they finish! Oh yeah, it also has a little reward paper at the end to give the child when they finish the book! It's great, we love it and would truly recommend for preschoolers learning the alphabet!
For my first child, I bought individual Hooked On Phonics workbooks as we went along. I decided to get this "super workbook" for my second child, and think it's the better way to go. It costs less and we can skip around to keep it interesting and fun. Both of my kids look forward to working on these activities, and I see progress in their reading and writing.
it is a great book and it worth the money. the pictures are good and well thought out. it is a good begining.
I purchased a number of these books to use in my preschool. I was disappointed that when you use the tear out pages to send home each side of the page has a different letter so this isn't practical for a preschool or even for individuals. It is really too bad because I really like the pages. I called Hooked on Phonics to see if I could have permission to copy the books since I won't be able to use them (very expensive for color copies).
