So...let me get a few things right out there to begin with.One...I'm a card-carrying Spidey fan. Flash Thompson has nothing on me. I have purchased these issues over several decades in every iteration from the original comics to reprint comics to hardcovers to this new compilation. There is original Spider-Man art in my office. I have a Christmas Spider-Man sweat shirt. This is a HUGELY biased review.Two...I love these Epic Collections. Having to sell my entire comic collection (except, of course, my Spider-Mans) a few years ago, these books are just the things to ease my loss-of-my-childhood pain. I eagerly await the release of each new volume.Three...I re-read these first 18 issues this time across THREE different collections...the recent Marvel Masterwork re-release, the massive Omnibus from 2007, and this book...in order to compare the reproductions and presentations.I'm THAT guy, if it wasn't ridiculously obvious.This Epic Collection appears to be generated from the same remasters (to copy a term from the audiophile community) that were used in the recent Masterwork, the one found in the splendid 75th Anniversary Box Set. They are slightly different from the ones used in the Omnibus.The colors here are bold, and inks are crisp. The tome itself uses expensive-feeling paper, heftier than your average magazine stock, and miles better than pulpy newsprint (although I LOVE that smell of pulpy newsprint).See? I'm THAT guy. I have issues. No pun intended.From a technical perspective, this is a no-brainer. A thick slab of Spider-canon....heck, the Ten Commandments and Bill of Rights of the Spider-Canon...solidly put together in a quality softcover, for an impossibly reasonable price.
