3.5 stars.Bendis's dialogue is strong - the banter between Tony and Rhodes and Tony and Friday is good. Mary Jane Watson's appearance in these pages is a bit of an irritant - she is not written in anyway that makes her an interesting character...but it still feels like a cheap cameo and a bit of a betrayal (as a Peter Parker fan, I don't want to read about Mary Jane Watson assisting another super hero).The story is a bit weak, but (sort of a spoiler alert) because it ends with only a minor victory for the heroes, it is salvaged a little.In this trade, we are introduced to Riri, a 15 year old African-American female who is enrolled at MIT. She has built her own Iron Man suit (Iron Lady? Iron Maiden?). While I applaud Marvel for adding to the diversity of its lineup of heroes, the planning, plotting and writing behind this was inadequate (so far). Unlike strong female characters like in Saga, Lazarus, Velvet, Fables or Powers, Mr. Bendis has not done the most important thing with a new protagonist - make them interesting.Mike Deodato's art is fine.
This volume was quite entertaining. I really enjoyed the story, though I feel like it ended too quickly. This also comes down to personal preference, but I preferred the first volumes art style, but it was still very well-drawn and detailed. Nothing revolutionary here, but it sets up something that has huge potential.
