Remembering The Forgotten God: An Interactive Workbook For Individual And Small Group Study
Ebooks Online

In this workbook companion to Forgotten God, author Francis Chan reminds us of the true source of the church’s power—the Holy Spirit. Chan contends that we’ve ignored the Spirit for far too long, and that without Him, we operate in our own strength, only accomplishing human-sized results. Offering a compelling invitation to understand, embrace, and follow the Holy Spirit’s direction in our lives the workbook is designed to initiate and facilitate both individual study, and small group discussion, interaction and practical application of the message of Forgotten God. The workbook will stand alone, or can be used alongside the Forgotten God DVD Study Resource. Francis’ thought-provoking teaching makes this a valuable workbook resource for individual study, a seven-week small group study, churches, youth groups, and college campus ministries—and perfect for retreat weekends.

For anyone desiring to know Holy Spirit in a deeper and more personal way this bible study is for you. Francis Chan gives very practical ways to grow in our understanding of Holy Spirit and how He works in our lives. It is also very challenging as he takes us to task about doing what God wants and not just learning about it. I would encourage every Christian to get this study.

The workbook which compliments the book, Forgotten God, helps the student to think more deeply about the material presented in the book. Having to write down answers crystalizes thoughts and draws the reader to a more profound level.

Remembering the Forgotten God is AWESOME. Our small group did this study earlier this year. We used the book, workbook and the DVD. Francis has been blessed by God with his writing and teahing abilities. His transparency and insight into Gods word is a sure way to grow in your own relationship with God. I strongly suggest doing this study!!!!!

A lot of the questions are rather loaded- it is a good supplement to the dvds but I'm not exactly enamoured with the series. I feel as if the author doesn't really know the Holy Spirit and gives an inaccurate representation and is more inward looking than Holy Spirit focused- for example in session 4 'Why do you want Him' - "sometimes we fixate on the really flashy manifestations of the spirit but when a proud person exhibits humility, it this any less supernatural?" When a person patiently loves and prays for a grouchy neigbour or coworkers for years with no results, does this not show the spirit's power?"My answer:No. Patience and humility are fruits of the Spirit- they are a natural result of abiding with Christ and grow naturally. There is a clear distinction between gifts and fruit.Gifts of the Spirit are:Wisdom, Knowledge, Faith, Healing, Miracles, Prophecy, Discerning of Spirits, Speaking in Tongues and Interpretation of Tongues - Eph 4:7-13 and Romans 12:3-8 and 1 Cor 12:1-11Fruit of the Spirit is:Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, Self-ControlGal 5:22-23It's sad when preachers preach a gospel without power. I thought this would be something more along the lines of Acts and how to respectfully invite the Holy Spirit to partner with us but it seems to be more of "being as good as you can in your own human power".Hear the voice of God for yourself and you'd never be the same again...His voice does not condemn, does not make you feel guilty or bad...is always gentle, always loving... a good place to start would be John Paul Jackson's "The Art of Hearing God"...Overall, sorely disappointed with this bible study...

This guide was extremely helpful as I led discussion in a small group. My only caution is that to go through each question in group discussion would result in a very long group meeting. I would send a few questions before the meeting to "prime the pump" and usually send a few after discussion for people to mull over for the week.

This is the 2nd group bible study we are doing by Francis Chan. A year ago we did "Crazy Love" and loved it. Francis is so great at getting to the point of how we should really be living for God and not for "the world" in an easy to read book and supporting workbook. Do the study on your own or in a small group and you will be sure to be blessed :)

Francis Chan is a very prolific writer, and he has a similar style as Andy Stanley (at least that it my humble opinion). And speaking of being humble.. Francis is a very humble individual, and his style to the reader seems very humble and helpful. I appreciate his transparency with his own struggles. This book is about how many followers of Jesus Christ, for one reason or another, seem to either forger about the Holy Spirit, or not tap into the power that He gives us in our daily walk. There is some background from Francis' life, then Theology, and some application. It is an easy read, (as compared to Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Cost of Discipleship, who I think is somewhat difficult to follow) and the chapters are brief. There is a companion book available, intended to be used for group study that offers questions for discussion and introspection/meditation. This is by no means required, but I find it useful when having the Bible study, since it offers "Food for thought" to get conversation going. There are also several brief video segments that last about 10 minutes or less each, and introduce each chapter. One may purchase as a DVD and or other means such as streaming services like RightNow media. My Bible study group is going through one chapter a week, and the length of the chapter takes us about 1-2 hours to go through with time for discussion, etc. I really hope that you find this review helpful.

This book spends too much time prepping the reader to maintain a open mind about changing their views about the Holy Spirit - to match the view of the author. The more he tried to convince me to maintain an open mind, the more skeptical I became about whatever position he would eventually reveal. I just didn't like the author's style.
