Kindergarten does rock and this book will help ease the nerves of a kindergartener to be. Dexter voices his fears about kindergarten while his older sister reassures him that everything will be fine. After a great day at school, he decides she's right, kindergarten rocks. Readers get to see some of the fun things Dex does at school while watching his fears disappear along the way. A great help for kids who want to know what to expect in kindergarten.

With my grandson starting kindergarten in a few short weeks, we suddenly realized he didn't even know what it was! We hurried and bought this book, as well as a few others. This is the best book that we got. I like how the little boy gets to ask all his questions he is worried about. How he is a little bit afraid. And how his big sister helps him. The pictures are really fun and it is enjoyable to read outloud as well as to look at. It helped us open up some discussion with my grandson too. And I expect he will also be able to come home from his first day and say, "Kindergarten Rocks!"

My 5 year old son loved this book before starting kindergarten this year and still loves to read it. He really related to the story since he had the same apprehensions and fears about kindergarten as the boy in the book.

Do not read this to your child if they are excited to start kindergarten. This book tells kids they should be scared of starting kindergarten. If your child is fearful, just use caution and read it before you read it to them, so you can modify any of it.

This book was on my soon to be Kindergartner's summer reading list. My daughter is too excited about school to be nervous, but we had her read this book (rather than us reading it to her) and she loved it! .The book is great for emerging readers, though an adult will likely have to help them. This book also lends itself to the summer project we have to go with it - making finger puppets for the characters!!

I bought Kindergarten Rocks! as a present for my nephew who is starting kindergarten in the fall. He was feeling a little anxiety, especially since he is an only child and has not seen an older sibling start kindergarten. The book is lighthearted and fun and the perfect way to give an only or oldest child some older-sibing advice about the big day. My nephew reads the book every night and he has also taken it to preschool show-and-tell to show all the kids that Kindergarten Rocks! I also got Welcome to Kindergarten, which is a fine book, but would be my second choice. For any anxious parents, I'd recommend The Mommy's and Daddy's Guide to Kindergarten, which my sister now reads every night before bed too :-)

This book absolutely ROCKS! My grandson was terrified to go to kindergarten. Just break down sobbing, and he is all boy. and very strong. Said he loved his baby brothers and did not want to leave Mommy. It was pitiful. So we read this to him, and it all changed ! Just like that. He was excited and ready to go, and slept well. Please get it for your little baby who just is not ready to leave the nest. But when they see how fun It is in this book, they can't wait to wake up and go the next morning! Thank you for such wonderful words for my 1st born grandson!

Received as a gift. Not awful, but the book simply doesn't connect with kids who do not have an older sibling going to the same school to guide them. Also note that this boy does have a friend from preschool going to the same kindergarten as he is. If neither of these apply, skip the book. Another reviewer also wisely noted that this book implies that kids should be scared to go to kindergarten, so if yours isn't nervous about going, they might be after reading this.
