Neil is one of my favourite authors of adult work, so I was excited at a chance to introduce my daughter to his children's work. I bought Chu's Day and Chu's First Day of School. She is still a baby, and for the first few months, they were a bit too much for her, but now at 9 months, Chu's First Day of School is one of her two favourite books. She gets very excited when I pull it out, and she will carefully study every page and listen to every word I read with such enthusiasm and interest. She loves the pictures and the flow of the story. She loves to turn the pages by herself. We have a ton of books and this one stands out for her. :) She'll enjoy it for entirely new reasons as she grows older, so we will keep coming back to this one for several years to come! It's an adorable story of nervousness and acceptance and it has beautiful illustrations.

My daughter loves this book. Gaiman himself admitted the first book was the shortest he's ever written, and I think this book improves on it. The story is meatier, but delivers the same humor. The illustrations are beautiful, too. I would love to see a third in the series.

my toddler loves the Chu's books. They are beautifully illustrated and follow Chu - a cute little panda - when he sneezes bad things happen. This series is one of the books that MUST be read before bedtime every night. Will be buying the rest as they come out.

This is my niece's absolute favorite book. She lives next door, so she visits frequently. Every time she is in my home she rushes to the bookshelf and asks me to read it with her. She is 4 years old and practically has the book memorized! I'm trying to teach her that each word on the page is made up of letters that create the sounds we speak as we read. Her favorite thing to do is the "Aaaah Aaaah Aaaah Aaaachooooo!" part of the story.

Super cute little book. Our 2 year old loved it, as we purchased it right when he was start part-day pre-school. It was age-appropriate, and helped ease the transition. Highly recommended. Great author, beautiful illustrations.

Chu, the little panda with the big sneeze, is back. So, too, are his writer, Neil Gaiman, and his illustrator, Adam Rex. They've sent their goggled creation off to his first day at school, where he worries that the other kids will like him.He sits quietly on his stool, his eyes wide and wondering, as the other children -- a giraffe, a monkey, etc. -- introduce themselves and describe something cool that they can do. And what, the teacher finally asks, can Chu do?Well, anyone who read "Chu's Day" already knows the answer. His teacher and classmates are about to find out."Chu's First Day of School" is, like "Chu's Day," a simple tale that lends itself well to a dramatic reading out loud. Gaiman once again shares the message that a small deed can make a big difference and slips in a subtle hint about acceptance. And Rex again provides lovely, adorable illustrations that pop from the page.Chu makes a great friend for youngsters too wee to read or just starting out with their first books. Highly recommended.by Tom Knapp, the Rambles.NET guy
