This is a great book for preschool, kindergarten and first grade students facing their first days at school. In this story Oliver and his dad enjoy their summer together. When the first day of school arrives, guess who is nervous. Hint: it's not Oliver. It's dad. Dad has a tummy ache, dad doesn't get ready on time, dad drives slowly to school, dad won't leave the classroom and Oliver's teacher has to carry Dad out!At home, Dad is sad without Oliver. And rushes back to school early but sees something that makes him realize Oliver's right place is at school. This book allows both children and parents to talk about first-day jitters in a safe and humorous way. The illustrations are happy and colorful (like the cover), and this would be a good book for families, classroom teachers and librarians to share.A classroom could draw a picture afterwards of what they enjoyed most about their first day or week of school.
This is an unpredictable take on a young boy entering his first day of school. It seems Dad is more nervous than he is! Cute read - and it's nice to see Dad take a starring role!
