Milk Goes to School was a big hit with my 6 year old great niece as she starts kindergarten. I brought her a few books about school so she could get familiarized with the concept. She doesn't read much yet, but followed the story intently and enjoyed all the photos. I think the pictures are the best part of the story. The second time we read it, she could quote some parts verbatim!--especially "crème de la crème"--and she identified favorite and not-so-favorite characters through the story. The length of the book, for her, was just right. This one's a keeper!

We love Happy Birthday Cupcake and Peanut Butter and Cupcake by this author, which seem very appropriate for the toddler age group. This one is a bit too long and is a little hard to follow and the concept of being "spoiled" is beyond the grasp of my 4 year old. Pictures are fun as per usual, but in general, not my favorite.

I highly, highly recommend this book. Pictures are really unique fits to the style of photography used. The story is cute and had a useful moral for 5 year olds. Definitely glad I added it to our home library.

My kindergarteners love this story! They enjoy stories of being in a new situation and how to make friends. Perfect for the beginning of the school year, but I have a feeling we will revisit it many times throughout the year.

This was sadly a miss for our family! My toddler adored the pictures, but the story was over his head at 3.5 years old. We read Peanut Butter and Cupcake daily; this will likely get looked at, but not given the attention to sit through it. I also felt that it was a bit forced, like it really tried to be funny.

This story is adorable and I could not wait to read it during the first week of school this year! My kindergarten students LOVED it and I am excited to read the other two books by Terry Border to my class because they were two of my last years class's favorites. This book belongs in every primary classroom's library!

This book goes over super well with the little ones, who may miss some of the puns, but love the rhythm and the clever, funny photographs. But it works for a range of ages, too. The bonus is that the older the child is, the more they crack up over the puns and jokes-within-jokes, as well as the clever photographs. And there is even a level of humor there for the adult, hidden in plain sight, such as in the titles of the books on the shelves in some of the photos. But the best part comes from the reassurance that while the thought of starting a new school year and meeting other kids may be frightening, it is a place to bridge differences and make loyal friends. You'll find most every page is a conversation starter.Terry Border's style and approach make this a one-of-a-kind book!

Visually, this book is adorable! The pictures are bright and lively. Unfortunately, the story is long. Very, very long. My first graders would not be able to sit through this in one sitting. Additionally, some of the ideas in this book would be over their heads (i.e.: Milk is 'spoiled' having a double meaning).Cute, but not for really young readers!
