I used the Kindle version of the practice exams in addition to CompTIA Security+ Study Guide SY0-401 6th Edition (http://www..com/CompTIA-Security-Study-Guide-SY0-401/dp/1118875079) and I passed the test on the first attempt.When I took the test, I was given 5 lab scenarios right out of the gate. They were not intuitive, poorly explained, and confusing. I thought the whole test was going to be labs and started to panic. Finally after 5 it was all multiple choice. I was able to move through them quickly due to my studying and taking practice exams. With my remaining time I was able to go back to the labs and figure out what the hell they were asking for.This practice exam book will help you ace the multiple choice part and also learn the material enough to decipher the horribly presented lab section.
I bought this book to supplement the CompTIA Security+ Study Guide: SY0-401. I liked that this book is ONLY practice exams. This is not a study guide but it does supplement a study guide nicely.
So I had been studying for the 301 exam during the last 3 months or so of 2014, and by the time I was ready to take it, Christmas was here and nobody had any spots open, so I was now looking at the 401 exam. I knew they had changed some things and added more, so I went looking around for a good practice exam book and picked this one up. I took the exam today and passed on the first shot. This book shouldn't be your only source of study, but if you have to re-certify or if you just want a good way to gauge your strengths and weaknesses, I would absolutely recommend this book. The questions are written on a difficulty level that matches that of the real exam, so it's a solid way to gauge your progress. Glad I picked this book up!
Great study tool. Not recommended as stand-alone material, but was very valuable. There are only 300 questions in the practice exams on the disc, so you might be fine not ripping the seal, then just returning the book. Haha
The documentation and study for the test is really well done. As a mac and Linux user I don't understand why a learning company such as magraw hill would only release Microsoft Windows based CD Rom and not put the practice exams online. Amazing that they limit other platform users when Microsoft is so full of security holes.
The book did meet my expectations, it explained the concepts and it was easy to read. I had to take a test for my job and this book did prepare me very well. The CD that came with it was extremely helpful. The CD allowed me to go into a test mode, the test simulation feature was very good. On a scale of 1 to 10, I give it 7. The reason I give it a 7 because the code to receive 10% off the $389 test amount did not work.
It is a good book for the test preparation. I bought the Kindle version. Book includes the link t the website, where you can download test software. All together is much better, then useless Testking sold by COMPTIA.
Great study guide. Has a little bit of everything. Although one source should not be considered enough to pass an exam (unless you have prior experience), this book should be in your arsenal if planning on taking Security +
