This book is a gold mine full of nuggets to use in navigating a project from beginning to end using MS Project 2010. It is like a project scheduling bible with chapters on every topic including estimating, scheduling, earned value management. And chapters include a blue highlights icon pointing out new features in Project 2010 so you know what features changed from 2007 to 2010. Very timely for my work here at the laboratory.A big thank you to the International Institute of Learning (IIL) and to authors Mr. Ambriz and Mr. White.Jeff Janke, MBA, PMPLos Alamos National Laboratory
This is a must have book for anyone who needs to gain a deeper understanding into the scheduling process. Dynamic Scheduling will both show you how to perform the operations needed in MS Project 2010 and explain how to improve your understanding of its usage and also the underlying scheduling concept. For example the other day one of our senior project managers needed to understand the methods for shorting the critical path and what this would mean to his project, after a quick review of the book's index we realized there was a entire section dedicated to this topic. I highly recommend this book.
Driving your project through resource availability is, when dealing with those who own a project's budget or are responsible for it's deliverables, pointless. The powers that be want hard dates. Resource availability changes are not something they are interested in changing their delivery schedule and/or connected processes or projects for. That being said, there is a TON of great ideas on how to utilize Dynamic Scheduling to order tasks based on resource availability as opposed to hard dependencies. Some of this type of information has proven to be useful. Still, it goes against what most managers and team members are used to. Implementing this scheduling approach involves as much OCM as it does learning and mastering the approach yourself, as well as the tool.
I just read thru "Dynamic Scheduling 2010" and it is definately a great book to have on your book shelf. The whole concept of dynamic scheduling makes a lot of sense and can make project schedulers much more manageable.I have been consulting in Project Professional and Project Server for the past seven years and this is one of my recommended books that all project manages should have on their bookshelf.Cheers!
I am very satisfied with the book Dynamic Scheduling with Microsoft Project 2010. The book has been very important to my career at Caterpillar Financial, because I am always involved with Projects, and the book has been my guide with Project Management principles. The author John White demonstrates a powerful knowledge with PMP concepts. I can tell that I learnt a lot with him! I highly recommend the book!
No matter you are a beginner or an expert with MS Project, this is the book you need.It explains how to implement best Project Management Practices with MS Project as well as it describes how to benefit from the new features.I have spent a couple of hours to browse through all chapters of the book. The book is great. Congratulations.
Hello,First than anything I'm Mexican and as you know my native language is Spanish, so my apologies in advance for any mistake. The book so far so good, I say that because at the moment I'm reading it and I haven't finished, It's a very complete book that can help anybody even if you are not an expert at using Project, it's because it explains in depth detail step by step what you have to do and gives you very important advice in the use of the Software and techniques used by Project Managers. One think I don't really like is that the book was thought to be read only for Project Managers and actually I'm not a Project Manager but that doesn't mean I'm not able to manage projects as good or even better as a Project manajer would do it, I'm just only an engineer 27 years old guy who wants to learn as much as I can.By the way, Thanks to because it was the only mean by which I could get the book.
This book has greatly helped me fill in my MS Project knowledge gaps. It is meant for a professional audience versus an academic audience. I liked that 1) it targets only scheduling, not all MS Project capabilities, 2) it is relevant to my work as a project manager. It is frequently flipped open on my desk and has answered more questions than it has created.
