This touching, unique book written by Beth Moore has cut deeply into my heart. Through this perfectly layed out book, Moore brings the reader through a realistic adventure about the life of Jesus Christ. She reveals many truths about Jesus' life that we overlook when reading the Bible's facts about His life. Moore's insightful words are refreshing, freeing, and eye-opening. This book touched my heart softly and intimately, bringing me closer to the loving and graceful heart of my Savior Jesus Christ. The realistic views and the heartfelt moments that the reader enters with this book are life changing and freeing. Anyone who has ever wanted a closer look at the life of Jesus and a deeper touch of His unconditional love should readh this book. I absolutely love and adore this book.
For anyone who is serious about becoming a disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ, this heart felt study of the gospel of Luke is an excellent place to start. A fulcrum for any personal Christian library, this easy to follow format provides a reusable outline for study of the other three gospels. The one thing that sets this book apart, I believe, is the wonderful insight into the reality of Jesus' day to day life, offered my Ms. Moore. It is as if she is really there, walking with the Master. Her radiant love for our Lord is overwhelmingly evident in her words. May we all learn to love Jesus in such a way and know Him as personaly as this author obviously does.
I don't normally share my opinions with the general public, but this book has moved me to do so.I was raised under the rather misguided impression that Jesus was a very solemn and quiet person. One who at times, tended to do quite a bit of chastising to His flock. Beth Moore's gift of speaking and writing is amazing. She does an exceptional job of portraying what a kind, loving, and JOYFUL person he was. My eyes were opened to a whole new (and joyful!) way of looking at Jesus and the Bible (and the New Testament specifically)!I found her book through a bible study class offered through my new church and I would HIGHLY recommend getting her CD (or DVD if it is offered) of this study because she has a phenomenal way of helping you to visualize the life Jesus led and the world He lived in.I loved the book and the study so much that I am now looking for other books that she has written.
Beth Moore speaks directly to the heart and soul with this illuminating, stunning book about Jesus Christ. Could not put it down! A must-read for anyone searching to know more about this wonderful, visionary leader. Jesus Christ gave us more than just the Gospels, He gave us Himself! Beautifully-written, well-researched, and irresistable.
I always wanted to read a Beth Moore book, so I got this one. The book is a devotional study of Luke's gospel. Some passages are skipped for the sake of brevity, but most are covered. Moore interprets key Greek words and applies the meaning of the text to life. Reading this book reminded me of the way Matthew Henry writes. She is a bit more aware of the biblical culture than Henry was, but this is definitely more of an inspirational book than an exegetical one. I took notes and was blessed by it.
So far this is my favorite Beth Moore book. I've already read it twice and am sure to read it again. She tackles a very familiar story with fresh insights just about every chapter. It's not a "preachy" book. Rather she makes you feel like you're a fellow learner with a good friend. Unlike some of her other books, this does not require looking up many references which makes it ideal to read when you're reading somewhere other than your desk at home.
Though I'm not a rabid consumer of Beth Moore's work, I am never sorry to spend time in it. Her emotionality is sometimes a little over-the-top for my tastes, but I don't mind too much because it's sincere, AND because she is so theologically sound. And sometimes I even choke up a bit with her.She loves the Lord, she loves His word, and she unpacks it well. I believe that this study came at a good time in my own life, and I found it enriching. I believe I do love Jesus even more for having read it.My only concern toward the beginning was when she encouraged the reader, at some length, to imagine Jesus' physical appearance. It was well-intended, but it could easily cause people with a certain weakness to violate the spirit of the Second Commandment. Fortunately, she didn't continue to emphasize that activity. As for the narration, I thought it quite good. It seemed to get better and better as it went along, too. Beth's emotionality would be easy to under- or over-do, but I believe the narrator got it just right.
One of the most informative and moving books I have ever read about Jesus. I have two copies because one is worn and tattered. Lots of facts and references about the original meaning of Biblical words and explanations of culture during the time Christ walked the earth. Details Christ's life from Mary's conception to His death on the cross. Truly a moving personal experience reading this book. If you don't already know Jesus, you won't want to go another day without Him. If you already know him, you will enter into a more intimate relationship with Him than you ever imagined. Many times I read a page and had to stop reading and digest the magnitude of what I had just read and it's meaning for me and my personal relationship with Jesus. I will reread and reread and reread......
