Received this wonderful book of Old Testament stories promptly & in excellent condition. The only thing missing was a pair of 3D glasses. Since this was a used book, I was ok with that. Will use this to teach a Sunday School class for Junior age children. Thanks.
I homeschool my (almost) 10 year-old son and he loves this book! It is a wonderful overview of the Old Testament. It does not have the entire Old Testament in it. For example, the long geneologies are not included in this version since it is probably too much for young kids. Because we are Catholic, we will use our Catholic bible to read the other books of the bible that are not in this one, like the books of Sirach and Wisdom. My son is learning all sorts of historical and interesting facts since there are lots of side notes and tidbits of information scattered all over the book. It is made to look like a kid's magazine with lots of puzzles and games interspersed throughout, so it is much more interesting for a high-energy boy to read than a regular bible. We like the 3-D glasses that came with it - it makes the book interactive. Overall, this has been a great way to get a general overview of the Old Testament. We will move on to the Magnify Psalms and Proverbs book, then to the New Testament book. My son reads this book for the religious portion of our homeschool, but he also reads it at bedtime before we say bedtime prayers (it is part of his bedtime ritual to read a bible story at bedtime). Today he told me about Ezekiel who was commanded to eat a scroll that tasted like honey. He was so fascinated by it and he kept talking about it all day. The Old Testament is so full of strange adventures that it isn't hard for a young boy to become enthralled by it, and it is easy to teach him the spiritual significance of the bible stories when he is so interested in the stories themselves.
I love the book/bible! It's fantastic, but it wasn't in the condition that I expected it to be in. It looks like it got wet and is pretty bent up! The papers and everything seem fine, but the cover may need a little repair.
This book explains the Old Testament is a way that make it fun to read and study. Being a teacher of children, it has really come in handy when discussing chapters with youth.
