My wife and I carefully browsed dozens of children's Bible story books in search of suitable bedtime reading for our 5 and 2 yr-old boys. We both have masters degrees in biblical studies and have developed an appreciation for the art of narrative and interpretation. So, apart from the basic criteria of vocabulary level and fun illustrations, our criteria were pretty high. [For a while we were happy with 'The Message' version for Kids, particularly because of the cool illustrations. But the text is the same as the 'adult' version! So we found it tedious to have to re-tell the story ourselves]. Having read 'God's Story for Me' with our boys for several weeks now and seen how they respond, we are wholeheartedly delighted to recommend it! On every conceivable level (story selection, narrative style, theological-moral emphases, historically-informed yet endearing illustrations, personalising with stickers, etc.) this book scores very, very high. The writer-illustrator team who produced this book obviously understood their task very well and have gifted young English-speaking children everywhere a brilliant start to knowing and loving God's story to us. It's a great resource for parents to teach their children at a young age the joys of reading the word of God. We have to keep ordering more copies, because we keep giving it away as presents to our family and friends with little ones.
Over 100 stories told on over 500 beautifully color illustrated pages. Useful even just for language development in toddlers. Even for atheists, this is a great book for introducing anyone to perhaps the most influential book in history, at least as important as the classical Greeks and Shakespeare.
I read to my kids from this almost every night. They love the stories. Keep in mind it's more of a Bible story book and not a children's Bible. The stories do note scripture references, but the only thing I'm not crazy about is that it doesn't have an index, so if you want to look a story up by book/chapter/verse, it's a bit hard. Overall though, I highly recommend it.
We love this little Bible. We read it to our 4 year old every night for 3 years until it fell apart. We got it as a gift from her Sunday School teacher. We liked it so much we bought this one for a friend. The stories are age appropriate without glossing over difficult to understand concepts such as death. The pictures are colorful, a bit cartoon like but accurate as far as Jesus is concerned. He is not portrayed as blond haired and blue eyed.
Just got this for our granddaughters (4, 3, and 1). The pictures and type size are great for the kids and the Bible stories nicely done. As a pastor I am very happy with this for the kids in terms of content and appeal.
My grandson is the 'busy' type. He will not sit still very long. Each story is 2 or 3 pages long and that's perfect for him. Often he'll come to me with book in tow. I think we both enjoy the book. Great buy!
My little one love this book. The stories are short and sweet. Easy to read one or two to him before bedtime. He is able to get the main idea about the verses, without getting overrun with the details. I bought another bible that my Kindergartener enjoys as well, so we normally try to read the same story from both so that they can really grasp it.
