I bought this book online, site unseen and it is one of best purchases that I have made for my son. The stories are biblically sound and the illustrations, although not the greatest (like say Ashley Bryan), are nice reflections that help bring the story to life. Beautiful companion to the Bible, Illustrated Especially for the Children of Color (Which is actually a real bible that can be purchased in either King James Versions or New International Versions)
I originally bought this book to hold for my future child, but the Lord led me to gift it to a church member in his late teens. Developmentally, he has the mind of a child, but is a creative genius! He frequently showed me his comic book sketches and cool inventions (e.g., a watch made out of paper!). I imagine that he enjoys the book because the Lord led me to gift him and he happily received it. I bought another one for my future child...and the Lord led me to gift it to a Christian friend who has 2 biracial (black and white) children. They live in a majority-white area. She was excited about receiving it. It features Biblical stories written from the Contemporary English translation and illustrations of colored Biblical characters (the way these people actually looked!). I wish that I had one growing up...
I wasn't disappointed with this Bible. I purchased this Bible so my daughter would be able to see individuals from the Bible that looked like her. I love it.
It's a good bible as far as the information goes. It's a little advanced for my newborn, but when she is older maybe 8 and up it will be fine. But it does not have as many pictures as many of the other story bibles I have encountered. I was looking forward to lots of pictures of people of color.
I had this book when I was little and loved it. So when my daughter wanted to learn more about Jesus, I wanted to get this book again but I'd given my copy to a friend whose children also liked it. The illustration is eye-catching and interesting to look at. The stories are simple enough for my 4 year old understand.I ordered a used copy of this book but it looked brand new when it arrived :) I'm very please with this purchase.
This is a very nice bible, however, I give a 4 star rating because it ends at the book of Acts.
