Growing in Christ brings together four separate Navpress works: the five-part Lessons on Assurance, its companion scripture memory pack, the eight-part Lessons on Christian Living, and its companion memory pack.Lessons on Assurance is probably the most-tested discipleship tool ever published. It has been around in several forms since the 40s, and has been virtually unchanged since the mid-70s. I myself was nurtured by it when I came to the Lord in 1974. It has served as a solid foundation for virtually everything I've learned since. And I've used it to help equip scores of people since then.Each of the five assurances covered builds on the previous one: Salvation, Prayer, Victory, Confession, Guidance. Together, according to the authors, they help the believer defeat the devil when he attacks.The lessons are constructed by taking apart a key verse, phrase by phrase, and taking the disciple to other scripture passages for deeper understanding and application.While Lessons on Christian Living (the second part of this book) is useful, I generally make it more of an elective as I disciple others. This book is to be used to assist in learning the Bible (KJV, NIV, NASB, & RSV). Inside is a thirteen-week course that takes you through lessons on assurance and on Christian living. In each lesson you will memorize a Bible verse, study other related passages, and answer simple questions about what you have read. This book also contains verse cards that you can carry with you.
WARNING, WARNING, WARNING! There are two versions of this book. A 1980 version and a 2007 version. 's website only shows the 2007 version (but shows the image for both). I ordered one book thinking it would be the 2007 version, but it was the 1980 version.  was VERY helpful and offered to allow me to buy another book and ship it one-day shipping and they refunded the shipping cost. I told them I only wanted a replacement book if they could guarantee it would be the 2007 version. Guess what? I got another 1980 version and this one had questions answered in ink as did the first one. The book received was not the same as shown. I received what could have been a similar copy (older version with different cover), as I know it is different from this cover pictured newer addition, which my friend and I had used in a Bible study together. It also had writing in the book (it is sort of a workbook), with the answers filled out - making it effectively useless and requiring me to delay my study by ordering a new one.On the bright side, It arrived at my home safely :|
I love this book. I must have brought eleven of these books of which I have given nine of them to others because I think that it is such a great learning tool. Regardless to one's maturity level this book is beneficial. If one have been a Christian for a long time it helps them get back to the basics and if one is new to being a Christian it helps them get an understanding. I recommend this book to all Christians.
Our church routinely uses this to establish new Christ followers. Then we take then into the Nav 2:7 Growing Strong Discipleship series. Growing in Christ is simple yet effective. Includes scripture memory cards on the 13 lessons. It clearly establishes the truth of how to follow Christ. We use it for Jr. High, High School and Adult ministries. Effective!
I got this book to do in a bible study with my family. It is a good book that covers the basics of growing spiritually. Now if we could just arrange everyone's schedules maybe we can actually find time to do the bible study.
I used this tool many years ago and found it to be exceptionally helpful. This is a great tool for those who are new believers and it's good for those who have been believers for a long time. It will take you on an amazing journey through the Word of God. I actually ordered it for some new Christians who I thought would benefit from it and they love it!!!! I highly recommend this book.
