If you were attracted to the title and perhaps the history of this fine author I will say with surety that this work will not disappoint!! It is a book for the serious of heart and desiring to draw closer to God and reap the benefits of communion and a greater anointing. Author A.W. Tozer holds nothing back in his straightforward way of revealing how sin, self, and pride are stumbling blocks preventing true union with God.In each of these chapters the reader will gain greater clarity on how to pursue God and follow hard after Him. His illustration of the Old Testament tabernacle will relay how the interior journey of the soul goes from sin to God's presence. The many sins of "self" will need to be brought to the cross, he states before the veil of true communion can take place. "Self is the opaque veil that hides the face of God from us. We must confess, forsake, repudiate the self life and then reckon it crucified ".As you discover how a defective faith can result in spiritual numbness, too will be the revelation of how obedience can give Inward revelation and acute perception, enabling us to experience God as one pure in heart. Programs and church attendance can still leave one inwardly bankrupt. Tozer exhorts us to get still to wait on God to hear him speak to our hearts. Accept His full Lordship and give forth complete submission. "We will acquire a new view point and mindset and a new power will begin to surprise us".This book, quite frankly, will revolutionize your life if you determine wholeheartedly to be a "doer"and not just a "hearer". These are simple, yet profound principles upon which any believer can follow if they choose to do so. I give this book a five star rating for the quality content and to the point principles. Allow it to change your life forever.
I have to say that this is one of my absolute favorite books that I have ever read. When I received this book I thought, 111 pages I'll be finished in just two days! Wrong, this is a book that you actually experience and it instead took 13 days for me to finish. A. W. Tozer wrote this book back in 1948 and was responding to the deadness that those attending church were feeling because the pastors of the time we not teaching people how to know God.At first I was not sure that I would like the book because the tone was a bit different but after about 10 pages or so I understood his cadence and tone and it was much easier to read so if it seems a little dry, stay with it you'll get his way of speaking in a few pages. My favorite page of the book is page 7; it describes his desire to make us want to really get to know God on a very personal level. It is here that he very accurately describes the state of our spirituality, and it floors me that this was also happening in 1948, you would think he is writing to our society today."The stiff and wooden quality about our religious lives is a result of our utter lack of holy desire. Complacency is a deadly foe of all spiritual growth.""The simplicity which is in Christ is rarely found among us."My favorite chapter of the book is Chapter three, Removing the Veil. This chapter is about removing our selfishness and understanding what it means spiritually to be able to commune with God. He also explains the many characteristics of God, helping you draw closer to him. I would highly recommend this book; you will be walked through a real growing process of how to actively pursue a real and spiritual relationship with God. It is really a self examination of your heart and your personal relationship with our Creator. This book was given to me by Aneko Press for my honest review.
Very enlightening. Takes you to a different place and leaves you to ponder God. If you are very serious about pursuing the Lord then I suggest this read. It is deep and requires thought. Takes time to absorb.
Great book, I couldn't put it down. Difficult to read at times. The thoughts are deep, but awaken and stir the soul. It gives the seeking Christian hope and encouragement.
I had read this book a long time ago and it was so refreshing to read it again. It is a timeless book that speaks to the heart of every man and woman who is in the pursuit of God. This edition has been updated so is easier to read and understand.I was amazed as I read The Pursuit of God as it seemed like it had been written today. Sometimes we forget that the troubles of man never change and that the things we're seeing today have been seen before. Not only that, but the heart of man is always looking for an answer and it is the pursuit of God and the relationship with God that fulfills us.So many in the church are not being fed the Word of God. As Miilton says, "The hungry sheep look up, and are not fed." So many of our churches are feeding us milk and platitudes when what we need is meat and something substantial.Tozer gives us so much in this little book in teaching us how to grow closer to the Lord. How to get more out of our time that we spend with the Lord. He inspires us to long for the Lord, and in that longing, to spend the quality time in getting to know him and be in a true relationship with Him.This book has ignited the soul fires for me again. I highly recommend this book as it will grow your relationship with God and give you a fire for that pursuit of Him! I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.*This book was provided to me by the publisher Aneko Press
