I remember this little Norwegian story from my childhood, but this author (Carol Ottolenghi) sanitized the story for today's children -- you know, no violence -- and made it into an anti-bullying story. I was so disappointed. However, I ordered two other versions, one of which is the original I recalled.
I bought this to read to my 3 year old at bedtime. The illustrations hold her attention, and she enjoys the story. It's about the right length for a bedtime story. It is slightly PC compared to the story I remember as a child, with the troll, being called a bully and the definition explained. Overall a good book and I will buy more from the series soon.
I purchased this book because I enjoyed it going up and I read it to my children. Now I'm a grandma and decided to start reading to my grandchildren and they love it, what surprised me the most is the price of this used (NEW) book, it wasnt used at all and I was able to personalize this book with their names in it so now they smile saying read my book.this was one of many books I've purchased and love so much. I have recommended this to my children for home collections. even their cheap selves can afford this. Thank you soo muchmy grandson loves this one everytime someone fuss he say you ole troll be a billy goat lol. :)
My mom used to read "The Three Billy Goats Gruff" to me when I was a child. I purchased it for my grandchildren, and they like it, too! The troll under the bridge scared me, but in a good way. I'm very happy to share this fairy tale with my grand babies!
Purchased as a holiday gift for grandchildren (under age 7). They liked the story and the illustrations very much. Their mother asked if it had a CD with it. Might have liked to have sounds of the goats talking....
Love it. Just like you'd expect. It's a super fun one to use crazy voices on! My little one loves to giggle through the voices - I only wish I could remember the voices I used "last time" I read it! I seem to make different voices every time and he keeps busting me! "That's not how he sounds"! Ha!
Just as I remember it when I was a child. We recently had a baby shower for my daughter and the invitation requested a favorite childhood story be given and signed in place of a card. She received a nice selection of older classic stories, as well as, several newer titles. It was a lovely idea!
Nicely illustrated, with a message about how those bigger and stronger can help out those less able to fend for themselves. A good message for my 3-year-old grandson who is about to become a big brother.
