I found Space Dictionary for Kids to be a very engaging book. I can see my fifth-graders being enthralled by the easily digestible sections. Gosh, I found myself not being able to put it down.The wide variety of space topics, presented in a palatable and understandable format, makes this book comprehensive and yet light and fun to read. You can learn about the history of cosmology and of our planet's various space programs. Read about all the planets, planetesimals, and "Planet Nine"!! Learn why poor Pluto is no longer considered a planet. There is an illuminating astronomy timeline that provides so much interesting information. I learned a lot about contributors to our body of astronomical knowledge that I didn't know. And the authors picked just the right astronomers and facts to present that shaped a well-rounded look at our history.The Andersons do a remarkable job of making complex concepts understandable. They've found just the right formula for providing enough information to provide a full understanding of a concept, without adding so much detail or complexity as to turn off even young readers. The writing is also friendly and conversational. It doesn't read like a dictionary; it reads more like a fun-facts book or almanac. Honestly, I could see students from intermediate elementary all the way through high school making use of this book. Definitions of heliocentric and heliopause are good examples of where the authors provide a great balance of basic and complex information.
