This baby does not want to called Cupcake or Little Lamb or Sweet Gumdrop. She wants to be addressed with her proper title, Princess Baby! When her parents understand, at last, all is well.Princess Baby wears sparkling gold shoes and a glittering crown. Bright patterns make up the illustrations which are influenced, no doubt by Katz's interest in textiles. The love the parents feel for their "princess" is reassuring and heart-felt as the family embraces on the final page. If you know a family with a new baby girl, this is the book for them.
This book was pretty cute. Baby is getting called all sorts of names (names that I call my children!) but she doesn't want to be called any of them. All she wants is to be called by her real name. She provides a bunch of clues as to what her real name is and then reveals it to her parents and the reader. If I were to be really picky, I could say that I didn't like the way she demands that her parents don't use affectionate nicknames for her. This may seem silly, but I am constantly trying to teach my own daughters to be respectful and talk nicely to others. Having Princess Baby yell at her parents to use a different name undermined those efforts. But, like I said, I actually did like this book and thought it was pretty cute.
This book is so adorable. Usually little preschool books are all the same and I got this for her to look at while on the potty, but the content of this book is so darn cute I love reading it with her.
For reals, I read this book like everyday to my two year old daughter. She's all quoting now and stuff. She's like I'm not a sweet gumdrop okay. I love it love it love it. Today my sister brought my niece over. Dude she was crying like she'd fall asleep but then out of nowhere she'd be like wahh wahh wahh. Guess what? I busted this out on my iPhone and bam! No more crying. So my sister was like, I got to buy this now, and I was like tell your friends. This author is the real deal for real.
I love Karen Katz books and so does my one year old little girl. We have several other Karen Katz lift-a-flap books that my daughter loves to read, especially because she likes to lift the flaps to see what is behind them. I bought her the book Princess Baby for her first birthday, but I wasn't sure she would like it because it wasn't a lift-a-flap book, but she loved it! We read it to her every night before bed. She really likes the pictures, I just have to be careful because it isn't a board book, and she ripped one of the pages. Other than that it is a very Cute story!
Baby girl loves this book. She keeps bringing it to me so that I will read it to her. The pictures are bright and very cute. The story is really sweet. It definitely captures baby girl's attention. Would definitely recommend.
My 2.5 year old daughter loves this book. We have read it to her so much she memorized the pages and reads it to herself.I like it because the illustrations are well done and so very cute.
Is this the message we really want to send to our young girls? They should demand to be called "Princess" and have us cater to their whims? I want a strong, smart, creative daughter who is valued for those attributes and not one who is training to be a brat. I highly recommend "Paperbag Princess" or "Princess Smartypants" instead. Those books have positive role models. As for board books- There are a whole world of them with glitter and touchy stuff that does not involve crowns and bratty little girls who are not destined to grow up and be CEOs, engineers or other high powered positions. Let's shoot a little higher for our next generation of women. We don't have to raise "Princess brats".
