To be successful at any task, you have to practice that task over and over again. To get a good score on a test, you should practice taking that test as much as possible. At least, that is what I've read and seen on TV from experts, musicians and athletes. It has worked for me in the past to take the same test (or simulated test) multiple times before taking the actual examination. This advice doesn't work with an eye exam though.I just finished reading the new Security+ Authorized Cert Guide written by David L. Prowse. At 777 pages, this is much more than an exam prep guide. As with most test prep books, there are lots of pretest questions at the end of every chapter. The hardback book comes with a DVD that includes three full practice exams. Once you have mastered one exam, take the next exam and then the last one. Life has taught me that unless I score at least 90% on each practice test, I don't bother to take the real exam. I study more until I get that 90%, but that might just be me.It may sound like a lot of work to master each exam but the whole idea of a certification is to show you have a solid foundation of that subject matter. In the field of cyber security, you can't take a test then flush the knowledge after passing the test. This isn't a college English exam. You will need this information in real life: Every bit of it.The Security+ certification is a hot ticket right now for many looking to get a foothold in the digital security profession. Mr. Prowse does an excellent job of highlighting which material you will see on the certification test and which information you can expect to see in the real profession. Throughout the book you will see page markers called “Key Topic” that you need to really pay attention to if you want to pass the exams.
