Dad always called him "Little Buddy." He really wasn't little, but when things started to change it became very difficult for him to cope. Little Buddy and his brother used to split their time with both their Mom and Dad when they were divorced, but when their mother married Tom they had to make a "hard choice." The boys decided they would stay with their Dad during the week and stay with their Mom "every other weekend." Now that was a difficult decision, one that neither one of them would get used to anytime soon because now they had two stepsisters, Erin and Amy.Little Buddy's brother seemed to be adjusting, but the sour look on his own face told a different story. It was hard not to think about Mom when he was home nestled in his own bed. He imagined that she was singing Twinkle to those new girls and it made him very upset. The next day he was very grumpy and began to act out. Little Buddy passed when it was his turn to read, he shoved his "partner at the drinking fountain," he threw things at a little kid and even punched "Zoey Enos in the arm." He knew he was in big trouble when the teacher called his Dad. He didn't usually act like that, but what was going on and how could everyone help? Did his Mom love those girls more than him? Was anything ever going to get better?This story about a blended family will strike a cord with many people.
