Ebooks Online

With this new lectionary commentary series, Westminster John Knox offers the most extensive resource for preaching on the market today. When complete, the twelve volumes of the series will cover all the Sundays in the three-year lectionary cycle, along with movable occasions, such as Christmas Day, Epiphany, Holy Week, and All Saints' Day.For each lectionary text, preachers will find four brief essays--one each on the theological, pastoral, exegetical, and homiletical challenges of the text. This gives preachers sixteen different approaches to the proclaimation of the Word on any given occasion. The editors and contributors to this series are world-class scholars, pastors, and writers representing a variety of denominations and traditions. And while the twelve volumes of the series will follow the pattern of the Revised Common Lectionary, each volume will contain an index of biblical passages so that nonlectionary preachers, as well as teachers and students, may make use of its contents.

Feasting on the Word is an excellent resource for those of us who prepare sermons, as well as for the average person in the pew who wants extra information and insight into the scripture readings for the coming Sunday.

Some of the contributors don't really resonate with me, but for the most part something will get me thinking. I find the information provided isn't material I would directly incorporate into my sermons, but it does generate some ideas that I can take in a similar direction. Not a lot of new thought on the scriptures, but it is presented well. Don't expect an in depth look at the text. It is more of a concise overview. The contributors do know their material and I would say you can trust their insights and understandings.

This is an invaluable resource for preachers and teachers of the word. It is easier to follow in the Kindle edition than the book in that each article is separate and you don't have to keep paging back and forth. I use it every week as I prepare for worship.

I use this nearly every time I preach, for background information and lots of different perspectives and insights. I am collecting all the volumes so I can use them throughout the year. Better than pre-baked sermons, these help you get some background to write your own more effectively.

I love this series and find it very useful, in general. However, in Kindle there is no table of contents and no index. I am not reading this as a continuous book! I want to easily be able to find a specific Sunday in the series. Please, don't make me page through the whole series to find a specific section. I would not purchase this series in Kindle again.

I find the four commentaries available for each reading extremely helpful as I prepare for preaching. The various perspectives and information on each reading help me as I wrestle with various questions on the text. I also love that I downloaded it to my ipad through kindle. Having it available wherever I go is extremely helpful. Thank you!

This series, Feasting on the Word, is my favorite resource for studying the scriptures of the Lectionary. I appreciate the fact that it contains four perspectives: theological, exegetical, pastoral, and homiletical.
