SEE BELOW FOR UPDATEThis review is about the printing, not the book "Big Hair, Don't Care"--which is a very cute book.I often buy books like this and just hand them to my daughter to read. I am SO GLAD I didn't this time. In the middle of this book, an entire different book is printed. It's called "Mommy and Daddy want to F...." It is HORRIBLE. It explains exactly how to have intercourse in a disturbing rhymey fashion. It references pedophilia. It uses every disgusting analogy or phrase you can think of or hopefully have never heard of. This is NOT a children's book, even though it has illustrations and it rhymes. This awful misprint is not the author's fault. I feel bad leaving a 1 star review, I just don't know how else I can let people know. If you buy this book, beware---look through it before you hand it off to your kids!UPDATE: We were contacted by both and the Author of this book. Both were very apologetic, supportive, and kind. requested the book back, and they did a full investigation as to how this happened. They determined it was a single instance misprint, and verified that there were no other misprints. They sent me a correct copy right away. While I wouldn't expect this ever to happen again with this book, my advice is to always scan through (or even better, READ) the books you get for your children before you give them to your children.

I now have a little girl running around my house yelling "Big hair! Don't care!" Which is also her reply now when other kids make fun of her curly hair. The book worked great for her self esteem and self worth.

Beautifully written to encourage our little girls that their hair is beautiful! My baby girl smiled the whole time we read it!

This is an excellent way to correct and normalize antiquated perceptions all while instilling self esteem. As a consequence of internal biases people are not used to thinking of racial differences in terms of beauty just that they are different. So black beauty is usually defined as how similar hair texture, facial features and skin tone resemble Caucasian standards of beauty. Everything about us is to be celebrated. It would almost seem to be an inherited trait for females to play with, twist even chew their hair and yet recently, young African-American girls have been singled out because of their hair styles, making newspaper headlines in quite a few States. Kudos to Crystal Swain-Bates for tackling the subject in such a sweet way. I hope that this book will be purchased by everyone looking to enlighten and be entertained at the same time.

I purchased this book for my daughter. She read it immediately and we have read it together a few times. It has quickly become a favorite! As a young girl of color, she desperately needed a book like this and I have heard her make comments about how she "loves her hair" and that she has a book about "just my hair." I am so glad I bought this for her.

This is an excellent book that celebrates the uniqueness of full, thick hair, a distinct African American trait. A great book to help children appreciate their hair.

a much needed text with wonderful illustrations examining every aspect of a little girl with big hair. Adults interested in this topic must also get Afros: A Celebration Of Natural Hair. This book is great to settle down to with children for many reasons. Please improvise the text which may seem stilted in parts. GReat illustrations of this very necessary work.

I bought this book to add to my collection of children's book for m nieces. I think it is a great story for young black girls to show them the beauty in there hair. Also, I love that there were a lot of rhyming words, which is helpful to beginning readers.
