Jem Sullivan has written a terrific companion to the new U.S. Adult Catholic Catechism that will be a welcome resource to anyone charged with leading a faith-formation program or discussion group. Each of the catechism's 36 chapters is given a two-page plan for an hour-long session. Included are summaries of doctrinal teachings, reflections, discussion questions, prayers, and excellent suggestions for further reading. And unlike the U.S. Adult Catholic Catechism, the guide contains references to the Compendium of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Highly recommended.UPDATE: After spending additional time with this book, I'd probably knock off a star or two. While the format is very good, combining prayer, doctrine, and reflection, far too often the discussion questions are of the navel-gazing variety. A perfect example is found in the chapter on Baptism: "What does Baptism mean to you personally?" Let it suffice to say that the questions would benefit from a more cognitive approach to learning.
I went through RICA but became ill and was not comfirmed. A year later now, I purchased this based on content and reviews. I took it to my priest and he said it is a very good course. I was happy that I made a wise purchase and continue my journey of faith and will be confirmed into the faith next month.
I am a product of the Pre-Vatican II Baltimore Catechism and the days when our Catholic education ended at Confirmation in our teens. The first and second editions of the Cathechism of the Catholic Church were the best thing that ever happened to enable adults to better understand the Church.I signed up for an online course concerning the Catechism and was surprised to find that the Church had made culturally specific guides for studying the big Catchism. For my course, though nor required, I also ordered the available study guide. It helps me structure my study of the Adult Catechism for the United States with tips and beautiful references for further reading. This is an outstanding accompaniment to the U.S. Adult Catholic Catechism.
Was a great study guide for the Catechism. Really enjoyed learning more about my faith and what Catholics believe. I recommend this to all those looking at the Catholic Church as well as long time Catholics to get acquainted with the faith.
If you are going to be studying the United States Catholic Catechism for Adults as a group this is a great companion guide. I would not say that is necessary since the Catholic Catechism for Adults is easy to read and includes some questions for discussions but the Study Guide gives you an outline for each session including prayers, recommended readings and additional discussion questions.
I really love this guide, made reading and working with Adult Catholic Catechism easier. I would recommend this book to anyone teaching the Catechism or reading it on their own. Glad I made this purchase.
If your looking to understanding the Catholic faith better, than this book is a must. My sister was reading this book and she said it rekindled her faith that had become lukewarm. She now keeps a copy by her bed.
