This is one of the best, most complete teaching guides I have seen. It provides extensive information about The Graveyard Book, including chapter summaries, important vocabulary, thought-provoking questions about the text, and four section tests to assess understanding. The teacher need not refer to any additional reference books to feel completely prepared to present this information to their students.Additonally the author Mary Elizabeth includes detailed descriptions of twenty strategies that skilled readers use when approaching a novel. Questions are provided to encourage the student reader to fully engage the use of each strategy when reading The Graveyard Book. I found the review of these 20 strategies to be very helpful and will adapt the information provided to use with other texts to improve reading comprehension of both novice and advanced readers.Mary Elizabeth also includes six writer's forums which provide activities that will challenge the student to use their creative abilities in writing a response to some aspect of The Graveyard Book.I highly recommend this teaching guide for busy teachers and for readers who are fascinated by an analysis of narrative structure.
