This is the darling story of The Little Mermaid in a shortened, Golden Book version. It's the perfect length for a bedtime story for my 4 year-old. I bought lots of them and gave them as party favors for my daughter's Little Mermaid party. They were hit because it's a favor the kids actually keep instead of a bunch of trinkets. Enjoy!
-A wonderful story!!! I still go through the feelings and emotions that happen throughout the book. I think it's a great under water sea story and I recommend it to any little girl!
This review is to give you an idea of the look and feel of the book. Given the price ($4 when I purchased), I know it is not a high-cost item, but I hope this helps. Content of the book is fine, but the quality is low. The size and quality are not the same as traditional Little Golden books. Not to be harsh, but I would place the quality of this book above something you'd get in a fast-food meal for free, but below what you'd expect from a traditional kids book in the $10 range. It's more like something you'd get a dollar store - the cover is thin, and the pages are bound in a way that they don't 'flip' naturally. As another reviewer pointed out, the pages protrude from under the cover, which is about as thick as shoe-box cardboard.In short, I wouldn't give this as a gift, but if you need a quick fix for a passing fad - it is worth the price they are asking.On a positive note, this book is Printed in the USA.
Not many people have the chance to do what I did... be expecting at the same time as your mother! That was one of the great things about being the oldest of 10 children, and it was terrific to be navigating motherhood for the first time with my own mom. My baby sister and my oldest son are just 3 months apart, and it's been an amazing experience for my mother and I to raise our kids together - including taking them, when they were 5 years old, to see the 1989 Disney movie this Little Golden Book was based on.Though my son had protested that this was "a girl's movie", he ended up really enjoying it, and this book did a really nice job of hitting on all of the main aspects of the film along with all of the great characters - Ariel the mermaid princess and her BFF (best FISH friend!) Flounder, her father King Triton and his advisor Sebastian the crab, Scuttle the seagull, Prince Eric and his steward Sir Grimsby, along with Ursula the sea witch and her eel servants Flotsam and Jetsam. My older grandson enjoyed this story for the first time over lunch one day about a year or so ago, and I know it'll be read over and over since I have a younger grandson now as well as another little miracle to arrive in September.We may not be able to afford all of the DVDs of the Disney classics, but these Little Golden Books at least allow me to give them a "taste" with 24 nicely illustrated pages.
Lovely book. I ordered this for my seven year old because she loves reading and she loves Disney. It was good for her to read and also learn bigger words she hasn't learned in school. Definitely a great classic I remember from my childhood. :)
Not the easiest for my 18 month old to sit through the whole thing, but I still read parts of it. She loves "pincess mimade." Even if we don't read all the words, the colorful illustrations allow me to point to things and explain what is happening on each page. I received this book at my baby shower.
My daughter loves this book and it helped her fall in love with Ariel. The story moves well for something representing a long movie. The wording is reasonable (not too many words, but enough for the story to make sense). Be ready to start buying little mermaid toys if you buy this...Pros: colorful, not too many words for a 3 year old, follows the storyCons: none
My daughter loves it as she has been watching the movie quite a bit recently.I bought it not expecting much for a couple dollars based on the reviews.While the art isn't high quality, that doesn't matter much to my 5 year old and she loves it.She spotted it out of the corner of her eye and grabbed it and was very excited to go through it.
