This Beautiful book presents the Eastern Orthodox Church's traditional or patriarchal Greek text of the New Testament. That is all - just the text! There is a brief preface (in Koine Greek) with an English translation in the appendix. To this extent, it is useful to have direct access to the traditional text of one significant section of Christianity; and for the preservation of the Greek New Testament text, this is the most important part - the Greek Orthodox Church. The text contains no foot notes, no marginal references and no apparatus. Just the naked text. And this text has some surprising characteristics compared to the Robinson-Pierpont (RP) and Zane-Hodges Majority text (MT) version of the Byzantine text:* Luke 17:36 is included despite being absent in MT and RP* Acts 8:37 is included despite being absent in MT and RP* Acts 15:34 is included despite being absent in MT and RP* The comma Johanneum (1 John 5:7, 8) is included despite being absent in MT and RP.These instances are odd inasmuch as these verses are absent from almost all Greek MSS and have been added very late from Latin. Thus, this Patriarchal Text appears to be mid-way between the MT and Textus Receptus. The book is a delightful reference for what the late Byzantium church used for its liturgy.
Comes from the Church, not archaeologists. For some reason people forget that the Greek New Testament is a living book - not one that was lost and then somehow recovered by conscientious Protestant scholars. It has been in use continuously by the Greek-speaking Church from the time it first came out of the same Church.
The Original Greek New Testament as used in the Greek Orthodox Church and all the other Orthodox Churches is simply wonderful and formatted very nice. The Greek text is clear and readable without any missing or deleted words and no smearing of the ink of the text. It is clear, crisp and clear. This edition replicates in its entirety the Official Greek New Testament as received and handed down in the Orthodox Church first codified in 1904 and revised later in 1912. However the readings it has preserved within its text date from the 4th Century A.D. and are present in the writings of many early Church Fathers. This is a wonderful Greek New Testament to buy and have for personal devotion and for in depth study. It is quite excellent. I highly urge all true and devoted Christians and Seekers of the Original Greek New Testament to buy this edition. You will not be disappointed, but greatly edified.
This edition offers the original Greek text of the New Testament, the most authoritative version, coming from Byzantium and being used even now in Greek-speaking Orthodox churches.* Note, that if you prefer hardcovers, there is now a Hardcover Edition of the Greek New Testament. The English text at the end of the volume is not a 'commentary,' just a brief (6 pages long) note explaining crucial aspects of the importance of this particular version. This note was reviewed by American editors who confirmed the absence of 'broken' English. It is now revised and (still) available for anyone to read for free at ellopos.com/blog/?p=1555 You are welcome to use Elpenor's contact pages at ellopos.net/elpenor/contact.asp to give your opinion about this note regarding the language or even the views expressed there.I'd like to thank all scholars who contact Elpenor at elpenor.org expressing their admiration for this edition of the original New Testament. You are really encouraging. Thanks a lot!
