This is the best series for personal and class study ever. As a seminary teacher, I used this daily. I am still using them now for personal study. I appreciate the examples and definitions that he gives along with the exact scriptural text. It really helps understanding without being too obtrusive.
This is a fantastic reference book with the original scripture text, added background materials, and the author's brilliant knowledge and insight that brings clarity to the D&C scriptures. I found the layout of the text easy to read, with important words and phrases in bold text. I also recommend this author's other study guides, especially for "The Pearl of Great Price", "Book of Isaiah", and the "Book of Revelation" which have always been difficult for me to understand. My sister purchased the author's "Book of Mormon" series for me, so I'm heading there next. I highly recommend the author's books I have read so far, and plan on reading his entire series of books. His method of teaching feels like you are with him in a classroom setting. Well done!
Brother Riggs has the gift of "remembering" other parts of the gospel that go along with what we are learning and by adding me I get more information on the subject, thereby helping me to remember. I love his easy to understand way of telling what is being said, or suggesting what might be meant. The book is amazing.
Using these has helped me understand the gosple like never before. I have ah hah moments almost daily as Brother Ridges walks me through the scriptures. I would highly recommend these books to anyone, especially if they struggle to understand the scriptures.
Our Church started teaching Doctrine and Covenants classes. I was having difficult time understanding many of the verses in most of the sections. This book provided comments, background information, and doctrine explanations in many of the sections and verses. These comments, background information, and doctrine explanations made the book easier to understand. This book is an excellent one.
I'm teaching gospel doctrine in Sunday school this year. I rely on this book heavily. The author has done a nice job of collecting quotes from the Brethren, past and present, which I have found most useful. There are also many great cross references to other scriptures in the Mormon canon. The author also adds his own insights, many of which I agree with, and/or are substantiated by scripture.
This book is an excellent companion study guide for improving one's understanding and appreciation for.the Doctrine and Covenants. I would recommend it to anyone looking to gain a greater understanding and application of scripture in their daily lives..
BEST WAY TO UNDERSTANDING SCRIPTURES...... I love reading Scriptures when I read the back ground history and understand the whys and wheres behind the verses and David Ridges makes everything so much more understanding. I feel like I am taking a Religion Class every morning as I read.
