Beginning to study Revelations in my Bible Study was daunting... I bought this to make it easier to "chew". By no means was it watered down. It was even more detailed than my adult Bible study. I was able to digest much of what God wants to show us through this study and was able to share more during my home group. Highly recommended for adults as well as children.... the age 3 and above is a bit low... needs to be able read and comprehend. Being out of the stage of learning to read and into the stage of reading to learn is a must.
Revelation is the only book of the Bible that promises a blessing to those who read it ("Blessed are those who hear and those who read the words of the prophecy and heed the this that are written in it; for the time is near" Rev. 1:3). We have indeed been blessed. The book is an intro (Chapters 1-7) to the more complicated part of Revelation, so it is not scary (a concern of my husband). We work on the study together (my kids are ages 7 and 8), but it allows the kids to figure out what the Bible is saying on their own. I think it is important to talk to the kids throughout the study to reinforce what they are discovering, but it really leads them to discovering what God is saying without providing a lot of its own interpretation. The book also touches on educational topics like pronouns, the 5 Ws and 1 H (what, who, when, where, why, how), and reading comprehension. Its a great boo -- you can't go wrong with Kay Arthur. We will definitely be doing the next book (Revelation chapter 8-22) after we finish this one.
I'm working through this now with my almost 8 year old and she likes it so much better than the bible study we were doing. It's really great to talk about this book and ask questions. She's learning a lot, although it can still be confusing. Just the right amount of time for each lesson too. Some are just too short and we don't get into much discussion so I like that this one takes a little more but not too long. Maybe 20 minutes.
So thrilled to have found this! I am looking forward to starting this study with my grand daughter! (age 5)I know that sounds young to most people, but I believe in telling her the truth, age appropriate, but not sugar-coated. I spent my whole life in "church". and only recently started learning the truth of God's Word, and finally understanding the book of Revelation. If someone had walked me through it when I was young, I would have gotten it! The Church needs to wake up and start teaching the truth! This book is well written, taking you verse by verse through the chapters, with questions and activities to help you really focus on what is being said. An older hild could do this on their own. I would recommend it with adult oversight to help the child talk through what they are learning. With younger children, like mine, I would recommend it being read TO them as you go, and then you can adjust to what you feel confortable with for their age and comprehension.
I'm so glad we purchased this. I got the sample first and went through it with my daughter. She begged me to buy it. It's a great way for her and I to spend some quality bible time. In her words, "I've learned more from this than Sunday School or youth group!" This is a topic not usually covered much with kids, and this is done in such a way that they find the answers for themselves with the help of the Holy Spirit. After we finish this study, we'll be getting another of Kay Arthur's guides.
I am using this in my Sunday night and Wednesday night kids classes and my kids love it and are learning so much. I was only teaching the book on Sunday night, but by popular demand, started teaching it Wednesday nights also. . .
Adapting this for Sunday School for kids 10 to 13 has been easy. Older students can work independently while I assist younger kids. It is inductive so personal opinion is kept to a minimum letting the students find nuggets of truth for themselves.
I am working through this study with my 9 year old. He loves learning about Revelation, and I do too. He has had some fears over the end of the world, and my hope is that this study will help him trust God, and not fear.
