Very good conclusion -- tied up the loose ends satisfactorily. Only problem: it had been a while since I read book #2, and I had somewhat forgotten where the characters where mid-situation. Nonetheless, it was a good-to-great triology (I, however, recommend keeping all three books so one can reference prior plot and character points.
I am so glad No Dawn Without Darkness is the last in the series. My heart and blood pressure could not take any more of this dark, scary and compelling series about a bio-terror attack on a shopping mall. I rarely read a complete series - only when each book is better than the previous do I keep going. Author, Dayna Lorentz, did just that. I am also impressed that she did not back down from the terrifying turn some of her main characters took when they realized they were not going to be saved. Their "whatever it takes to survive" attitude was horrific and realistic. Even the characters who were trying to hold on to their humanity and do the right thing were forced to make hellish decisions. Needless to say, no one survives unscarred.
Oh my gosh I am almost glad that I finished this series! No Dawn Without Darkness was the best book by far in this whole entire series. The whole book seems to be written better then the other ones, characters are more believable/likable, and the whole thing is way more thrilling. This time I actually felt something towards the characters, fear, sadness, their emotions were clear as day, their thoughts and fears making them seem more real compared to the first two.Ever since the second half of the last book, No Easy Way Out, the mall has become a war zone. With a new strain of the virus affecting only teens has some rebel groups out for blood. They are convinced that the Senator or the mall cops created this to deal with their lawlessness, forget about helping those who are sick, forget about keeping people safe. They need food, shelter, water, protection. To gain that protection they must threaten and kill whoever refuses to cooperate. The thing is, they aren’t the only new mall gang in town creating trouble.Without adding too much spoilers I can’t say to much but trust me when I say this is the best book in the series. Characters are more developed and filled with emotions that even I can feel. Dayna Lorentz has created the best possible ending, a realistic one at that, and I couldn’t be happier with how it ended. If you like any other books in the series, if you like quarantines or thriller/survival stories this is the book for you!
I really enjoyed this series. It is about the mostly young people trapped in a mall, but is sure takes you on a roller coaster ride of events. I would start with book 1 to keep it in context. What would a person do and how would you cope, if you were in these circumstances?.
Not quite as good as the first 2 in this series but still good all the same. I loved the way the book ended. It carried on after the event for a while to see how the survivors were handling things. Overall, lots of sad twists and turns in book 3. Things happened that I never saw coming.
This is truly fitting ending to this trilogy. I would not go so far as saying it was a 'perfect' ending, mainly because of how some of the last few questions of how somethings were left. Throughout the entire trilogy, everything became steadily darker and darker, some of the characters losing their already tentative grip on their sanity, humanity, and sense of reality. It was an almost forgone conclusion that Lexi and Darren would end up together, but there was a hope that she would be with Marco in the end. And as someone who would have a similar fate, I feel that Dayna Lorentz made the right call to have Mike get help in the end. It was sad the Maddie did pass, but the way that the other characters honored her was touching. But the whole storyline, at least from my personal perspective, is how the situation would have been handled in the real world. Though, it depends on which state it were to happen in. But the gist of events would be similar; people would panic, youths would wrest control from adults in the end, and there would be riots and deaths. Not far from perfect, but it is a story that will grab your attention and not left go until the final heart pounding page has been turned.
This third book in the trilogy did not quite engage me as well as the first two had. I am not sure what I think of how it ended. It felt almost like it was written in a different style, but this may be because it had been a bit since I had read the first two.
Fantastic series! This last installment is the most thrilling and page turning of the three. It gets extremely intense very quickly and never let's up - whereas the other two books seem to start mellow then build to a thrilling finale. I recommend this series to anyone who wants a fun, suspenseful, and intense yet easy, heart warming read!
