First, I loved the layout of the book and the wide columns for note taking. There is a website included with the book where you can access and download the "workbook" portion for free. Also because the book is wider, it stays open while reading and studying. Those for me are great qualities in a "manual", which this is. Okay, now that aside...I truly loved this book from the very first sentence of the preface (1991); "In 1981 I tipped the scale at over 300 pounds." And the Preface (2002;) " In 1981, I discovered I was an addict." And then the first paragraph of the Preface (2012) 20th Anniversary Edition; I think if I had discovered "He Did Deliver Me from Bondage" in a dusty attic, or a used book store, I might be able to convince other readers of the fact that in a very real sense I did not write or author this book. It's true that for several months I sat at my computer most mornings before the sun came up for two or three hours, typing in what would eventually become the final content of this book. But I wasn't writing. I wasn't creating. I was taking dictation."Rarely have I read a book where I have been so moved by just the prefaces. So once I began the introductory chapter, and continued with the rest of the chapters, I became so humbled and "moved" myself out of my own head and "moved" my knees to the floor in pure prayer, full of humility and gratitude for my trials. For the first time in my life, I was learning how to apply the scriptures to my life and find the answers for my insanity I had created with my own compulsions. Here in these pages were answers to every single question I had about myself. MYSELF.
