The Wentworth Letter (Annotated - LDS)
Ebooks Online

Joseph Smith, founder of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, writes what he calls a "sketch of the rise, progress, persecution and faith of the Latter-day Saints." Read this book and experience the events of his life, as Joseph did. In this emotionally-charged letter you can feel Joseph's heartbreak as mobs destroy their homes, steal their livestock, and murder their families. Experience Joseph's frustration as he petitions local government leaders for help and protection with no avail. But through it all, Joseph never gives up hope. He never falters in his faith and has a perfect brightness of hope for the church, for missionary work and for the well-being of his people. Feel his hope for the future as he describes the progress of the gospel being restored in these latter days.Within this work Joseph describes many of the significant events of his life, including his birth and upbringing, the First Vision, Angel Moroni's visit and the Gold Plates, the coming forth of the Book of Mormon, an overview of the Book of Mormon story, the organization of the Church, persecution of the Saints, Joseph’s plans for Nauvoo and the progress of missionary work around the world. But unlike any document of its kind, Joseph introduces for the first time the Standard of Truth and the Articles of Faith.

Very informative document. It clearly outlines the beliefs of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and its members. Very useful to anyone wanting to find out more about Mormonism.

The Wentworth letter contains important truths. It is precious to me as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I really enjoyed this letter and am grateful for it being available on .

This was very insightful about the LDS church and I will re read it many timesI am sure.

It appears that in the Times and Seasons, issue dated March 1, 1842, Joseph Smith, the Prophet, published what has come to be known as the Wentworth LetterDescribing his reasons for producing this document, Joseph Smith explained:"At the request of Mr. John Wentworth, Editor and Proprietor of the Chicago Democrat, I have written the following sketch of the rise, progress, persecution, and faith of the Latter-day Saints, of which I have the honor, under God, of being the founder"

This is a classic text on early church history and I am glad to see it on Kindle but there are some layout issues with artwork overlaying the text. Given the availability of the document, I would hope things like this would be cleaner since this is a paid for edition.

"The Wentworth Letter - Kindle Edition" by Joseph Smith, is just that it's a letter explaining about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and ending with what is now called "The Articles of Faith." The Articles of Faith outline 13 basic points of belief of The Church of Jesus Christ and are found in the Pearl of Great Price. The Wentworth Letter

There are actual letters written by Joseph Smith Jr. and so all are written in the 1st person. Gives you a good in depth view of what the Prophet was like and how he handled situations. I had heard so much about these letters that it was great to have it on my phone so I could read it. It is a short read...can read it in about 30 minutes or so. A worthwhile read.

Although this letter is concise, it caused my mind to ponder upon all of the hardships that the saints had endured in their day. I think this was written in a simple way because that was what was requested, however, in reality, there was so much more to be said, and to ponder.
