My children surprised me with a copy of this book on Mother's day! Flowers are the norm for us. It was pleasing to me that they wanted to know more about my life. I was impressed with the variety of questions the author used to get an overall picture of a persons life. When I completed filling it out, I gave it back to them. I wish I'd had a book like this to give my parents when they were alive. We didn't talk much at home and sadly the stories are gone. I recommend this book to those with aging parents and at least make a start on family history.
I loved this book. I only wish the author would have written it before my Mom passed away a few years ago. I most definitely will be answering these questions for MY children though. I know now how important it is for these answers to be passed on down through the generations...Great Book!
I love this book. I gave it to my parents and I can't believe all the stories it brought out! It sure makes getting personal histories easy. They can even right it down in the book! My kids now know more about my parents in a way I could never explain to them. A marvelous activity for family night or family reunions. Really sparks some lively conversations.
Excellent book to help promote conversation. I learned things about my parents and heard stories that had never come up before. Such questions as "where did you shop for groceries as a child?" we're non threatening and brought up all kinds of stories from a normally tight lipped parent.
This is a great book that gives you questions to ask your parents - questions you might not think of. My mother and I had more than one laugh going through it. I recorded it so that I would have the conversations long after she has left.
So far I like it, I was worried it would be full of a bunch of simple lame questions, but there are some good thought provoking and questions I have not seen in other lists of questions to ask parents. There are also some easy questions for the old person who doesn't like to explain things.I was hesitant to buy it because I thought most of the questions could be found online, but I was impressed and felt it was worth it.
Wonderful book for new parents. Some of the questions are kind of outdated (what were you doing during x war lol) and meant for people a lot older than I am but I still liked the book to give to my child one day
Great book! I gave this to my mom for her 70th birthday. There were a few other older family members there and we read the questions aloud and let them all answer. It was fascinating! Like our own history lesson. I only wish we had more time to get through more questions. I told my mom she didn't have to "write in" the answers, but that we could just pick a few questions to discuss over dinners. There are several different sections that ask a series of questions grouped together -- from your childhood, your beliefs, love, world events. Highly recommend.
