A good introduction book for SAS beginner with clear explanation for most examplesI would recommend it to those who want to learn SAS without any programming background
I love the layout of this book. This was the first SAS book that I used and I didn't realize at the time, but it is one of the higher quality SAS-related publications. Others I have purchased since have been disappointingly amateurish. The two-page sections provide just the right amount of information, and are great for pacing yourself for self-study. They introduce an idea or a function generally, then provide a code example using data tables that you can access through SAS OnDemand. My one nitpick is that I would like the examples to operate a bit more like exercises. They show the code first, then explain what it does, whereas it would be nice if the problem was presented first and then the code solution. That way I could make an attempt at solving the problem myself before seeing the code. I was able to do that for some sections, though, and overall this is a good book. Definitely recommend for first-time users.
When I was in grad school, I'd have gladly paid $200 for this book while learning SAS.It's available a lot cheaper :)If you're learning SAS, get this book and work your way through it.
I have been using this book since the 3rd edition. This is the easiest reference for beginners, and it is still the one I keep within reach for when I need to recall something regarding 'the basics'. I use SAS basically full time but I can't keep every detail in memory. This is not an advanced reference and I use a number of other resources as well. For students or beginners though, I think this is the book to get you up and running. Really well written for helping the student understand how data step functions work, beginning level macro functions, how to work with variables, dates, how to get your data into SAS, etc.
I needed a quick reference with an explanation and an example to fix a program and The Little SAS Book had exactly what I needed. I was hesitant to buy the kindle version but I am so glad I did!
Informative reference guide for the inexperienced to experienced SAS user. When I was first learning SAS I used it daily as a learning guide, now as I've progressed I still find it a useful reference guide for format keys and other commands that I'm not yet proficient on.
This book gave me a solid foundation of how the systems in SAS operate. However, I think more information on trouble-shooting problematic code and more examples on how to write code would have been helpful. There are plenty examples in the book (usually one for each section), but I thought it would have been helpful to have multiple examples for certain concepts and types of codes.
Nice introduction into SAS. The structure of the lessons is really well done. Each new topic has two pages that include examples and explanations. This book is a great entry into learning this powerful software.
