I ordered this book because my school recommended it as an appropriate and outstanding book for 2's. I received it, a little dissapointed in the lack of story line; however, my little budding toddler absolutely loves it. She guesses the "I see" before I turn the pages. And I do have to admit that I love the illustrations and the sweetness of the book. I just wish I had bought this when she was an infant and I REALLY wish (listen editors) that it was on board book, because I would love to give it as gifts to expecting moms!
My 16 month son has been intrigued with this book since the first time he saw it. He brings it to us everyday for us to read. When we can't read it to him he then sits and flips thru the pages himself.Wonderful clear illustrations for small child.This is a must have!
"Peekaboo Morning" by Rachel Isadora was a wonderful addition to my collection of picture books! The story features a delightful black child, who is probably male -- but the gender is not specified & a female could easily identify with the child. The illustrations are colorful and well-designed. All the illustrations are enjoyable, but the child looking at his mirror image is unusual. Showing grandma under her hat, grandpa behind his newspaper, and bunny ears prior to showing the full grandma, grandpa, and bunny gives children practice interpreting pictures. The child is seen having loving interactions with his mommy, daddy, grandma, grandpa, and his white friend. The phrase "Peekaboo! I see..." is often repeated. I know one young child of limited vocabulary, who began to say, "I see you," after hearing the story a few times.
How awesome is this book? I really love it, and so does baby. At 23 months old, he was able to "read" the book within days of receiving it. It contains familiar persons/objects, with a repetitive catchphrase. "Peekaboo, I see my Mommy." "Peekaboo I see my puppy." etc. Pictures are also beautiful. It is baby's new favorite.
I initially thought this book was way to "simple" for my 20 month old daughter when I first read it. Turns out that she LOVES this book. I've read it 7 times in a row in one sitting. She can't get enough. Loves seeing a little kid that looks like her in the book - and references to Mommy, Daddy, and grandparents make for a personal and identifiable touch. Very sweet and fun book.
My son is 14 months, he loves this book, he grabs for it every morning and we read it over and over. I watch him as he gases on the pictures and giggle as we turn the page and say " peekaboo, I see...."
Beautiful sweet artwork in this delightful, simple book. My 18 month old daughter enjoys this book very much. It's so refreshing to have picture books with African faces in it! There's a sweet white child in one of the pages too, so it's a very culturally friendly book.
