Grace In A Tree Stump: Old Testament Stories Of God's Love
Ebooks Online

Christians often assume too sharp a distinction between the Old and New Testaments, argues preacher, author, and teacher J. Ellsworth Kalas. They are too quick to view the Old Testament as a strict book of laws and commandments and the New Testament as a witness to grace. The God of the Old Testament is misperceived as a God of wrath and judgment, while the God of the New Testament is viewed as a God of love and mercy.

Our Sunday School class includes three generations. We are all very happy with the book, and our discussions have become quite lively and loud. Some of the others have asked what we are doing in our class because we can be heard around the building during class time. My son-in-law had recommended this book, and we're very glad he did.

If you enjoy Bible stories, you'll love Kalas's wonderfully witty yet incisive style of presenting the often-overlooked "twist" on a familiar subject. This book was not only fun to read but made me stop and think twice about stories I thought I knew quite well.

If you find yourself skipping to the NT to find the Good News...like me sometimes...read this book. God's grace has been with us since before time, it is His nature & character. Kalas does a super job of showing how OT stories overflow with grace...a must companion for every OT study.

Anything Kalas writes is worthy of 5 stars. He has contributed more to the Christian discipleship of others than most any author I can think of. Have met him in person and heard him discuss, preach, speak,, - - - -all superb. A great man a great Christian disciple and his writings are most understandable and meaningful.

I got a new perspective on the old testament
