This is an excellent book. I highly recommend it to pastors and Christian workers. I'm still reading it. I have arrived at 66% and have greatly enjoyed it. It is a little annoying that there are a number of typographical errors, but they can be overlooked.
George Whitefield was one of the first men who took the message of Christ to the common people of England and North America. The Anglican Church attendance was considered to be for the aristocrats, wealthy businessmen, professionals, and the middle class. Charity was distributed to the poor mainly by these classes of people. In all probability, with the thought they were earning their way to heaven by such largesse.George Whitefield was part of the great awakening that swept England and North America during the mid 1800's. The Wesley brothers worked alongside him. His sermons are circuitous, but they convey the message of Christ in great detail.Every Christian needs to read these great works of the growth of the Christian Church.
Great book in excellent condition. Content is current and much less formulaic than I expected. Of course the man got imitated a lot, so it's surprising that Whitefield doesn't sound threadbare.
I use this for sermons and newsletter pages all the time.
If your interest is the Christian history during the time of Colonial America this is a great read. If American History is your secular interest this is still an important read.
