The Heroic Boldness Of Martin Luther
Ebooks Online

In The Heroic Boldness of Martin Luther from Reformation Trust Publishing, author Steven J. Lawson shows the convictions and practices that fed Luther's pulpit boldness. It all began with his deep commitment to the word of God, through which he had come to his freeing understanding of justification by faith alone. Luther was outspoken in the pulpit because he was so deeply devoted to scripture, seeing it as inspired, inerrant, clear, sufficient, and supremely authoritative. For these reasons he believed that the preaching of the word was to be at the heart of the church's worship.

For the last 500 years it has been clear that Martin Luther was a seriously disturbed individual who actions and attitudes were shaped by his own serious subjective mental problems. In modern parlance, he suffered from a severe manic-depressant disorder with periods of mania during his manic phases. HIs mantra of "justification by faith alone unformed by charity and without good works" was a synthetic catharsis for his periods of deep depression. He held his views in direct contradiction of the teachings of Jesus in the Gospels, St. Paul in Romans 3:28-31, and St. James in James 2:24 because what the Bible actually taught made his opinions impossible. This led him to take dialectic opposition to anyone who question even the smallest part of his personal religious system. He was never able to make a coherent statement of his opinions and ranted like a madman even contradicting himself in order to insult and defame his opponents. There is a reactionary movements among Protestants trying to rehabilitate Luther, but it is not possible anymore. His approach to St. Paul has been thoroughly discredited by the New Perspective and it is widely understood now that Luther's aversion to charity as a necessary component to Christian salvation (in opposition to what St. Paul teaches in 1Cor 13: 1-13) was motivated by a poor self image and a refusal to accept what both the Bible and the Historic Church had taught.Don't waste your time with this nonsense. Read Herbert David Rix's book "Luther: the Man and the Image" instead.
