For many years I did not give the Beatitudes the kind of attention to study that it deserves. I would often hear or read them but always thought that Christ intended them for the non-believers. Being prompted by discussions in a study group, I decided to really take a closer look at this teaching and almost immediately I knew how wrong I was! The lesson Christ gives us through the Beatitudes is not only intended for believers, but really shows us the progression of our walk in faith. Spurgeon's gifted ability to walk you through the deep complexity of this scripture is amazing, timeless, and spiritually awakening! Another must read for the believer who truly seeks first the Kingdom of God!
I was so happy when I found this for Kindle having read the paperback several years ago. I checked the Kindle and found the formatting is good and of course the content is second to none. There is the characteristic plainnes that those of us who love to read Spurgeon are familiar with and why we go back to his sermons and are refreshed in our souls. There is much profit to be gained by reading this and so much to meditate upon. I am hoping to see the Kindle edition of the grand achievement of Spurgeon completed so near his Home Going. The commentary on Matthew. For now, anything that you can get of Spurgeon will be a treat for you. He followed the "old paths" teaching and he is as profitable today as when he preached in Victorian England.
When you read "the Beatittudes" you will better understand the "son of man". It in itself is a blessed writing and the beatittudes are some of the most gracious and some of the most precious remarks made by Jesus. On that mountainside, for the first time, Jesus laid out to his apostles the direction he intended to pursue and the intangible behavior one needs to entered into the KIngdom of Heaven. The beatitudes is all about doing the right things for the right reasons. It is about changing the human heart.
After reading Charles Spurgeon's explanations of Jesus blessings, you will never take them for granted again. This writer's extensive knowledge of the entire Bible and his own lifetime experiences enable him to bring the Beatitudes to life in a way you will never forget. He is sometimes a bit wordy, but you forgive him for that as you benefit so much from receiving this invaluable teaching.
Our pastor here like Spurgeon's works and words. We do too, in a way, but it's difficult to read and follow, at least for us. It's not modern Christianity, but still valuable reference material. The Kindle book is a good price and well worth it. But I'll have to read it several times, if I ever get a chance.
We are all generally familiar with the Beatitudes. This series of messages on the Beatitudes not only gave a much deeper insight into the meaning of each but showed how they build on one another. Their order is not random but significant, like a set of steps. each Beatitude the next step in our journey towards Christ and the sanctified life.
Charles Spurgeon is a timeless, loving, helpful teacher of the Word, and the Lord has used him mightily. This book is no different, and is such, that, I can pick it up and read a little or a lot and am blessed. I have also used the highlighter on my Kindle more it seems!
Charles Spurgens exposition of the Beatitudes is revealing opening the deep meanings Jesus wants us to see. Man must see himself incapable of doing anything in The Kingdom Of God without The help of God.
