I have not finished the book, Hearing Beyond the Words: How to Become a Listening Pastor", but from what I have already read, it is one of the BEST books I have EVER read in my life! In my opinion, it is a literary masterpiece. It has been said that a "literary masterpiece" is a work of art that it stands the test of time,Don't let the title of this book fool you! It is definitely a book for pastors and minister, no doubt. However, this book has so many life changing principles in it that it is an excellent resource for ANYONE who desires to grow in the area of communications. I have purchased four copies of the book so far to give out to friends and members of clergy.One of the things I really love is the way Dr. Justes explains the art of listening as compared to the gift of hospitality. This is something I never thought of before. The first time I discussed this book with one of my friends, I didn't realize that she was in the process of going to work. My friend had deliberately withheld that piece of information because she was was extremely interested in the content of the book. I shared the table of content, and then my friend asked me to read something from each section in the book. This went on for about 15-20 minutes and finally, my friend conveyed that she regretted having to get off of the phone because she was outside of her place of employment and running late. She asked me to call her later in order to continue the conversation where we left off. "Wow", I thought, "she never said that before regarding anything we had talked about previously."as she wanted to continue our conversation as she found it extremely interesting as well. It was then that I realized that this book was very special.
