Mande Matthews has done it again! Broken, sequel to the brilliantly-written, Bonded was exactly what I have been waiting for. Surely, it is worth the long wait Mande has put her fans through. ;)I first read Bonded, when I started blogging for the first time, Mande Matthews was one of the first Authors I had asked to do a guest-post on Starry-eyed Heart Reviews. She was also one of the Authors who inspired me, to continue blogging about books and giving me the confidence I needed. I remember falling for her creative writing, elegant story-telling, and the ability to pull readers in to this, indescribable, other-world. After finishing Broken, I was reminded, again, of as to why I became one of her fan.Astrid (Swan) and her twin brother, Hallad, are back and with more burden than ever. Everything Astrid was told growing up, was that she was of light, that she and her brother are protectors of their world. But, after rescuing Emma (their other sister) and being in the Palace, where she is not allowed to express herself, Astrid, find herself giving in for a moment of comfort with the Shadows. Her connection, her bond, with her twin has also become a problem, when Hallad finds himself attracted to a woman and Astrid is not able to do anything about the visions,- the emotions, that are not of her own.The characters are more developed, and I loved learning more about Astrid, and for a change, having the story told in her POV. Back in the first installment, we were introduced to her, but because she was unable to speak, we were more in sync with Hallad's thoughts and emotions. Now, that we get to invade Astrid's thoughts, we learn that she is more feisty than would imagined, and that her emotions and feelings are complicated.
